Para la mayoría de las negociaciones comerciales, generalmente es aconsejable comenzar con una o más reuniones cara a cara. Si no es posible conectarse en persona, comience con llamadas telefónicas o videoconferencias antes de agregar mensajes de texto y correos electrónicos a la mezcla. Las señales visuales y vocales mejorarán la relación y la comprensión desde el principio.

Si tiene ganas de enviar mensajes de texto, las siguientes tres pautas que indica el profesor de la Universidad de Creighton, Noam Ebner, en un reciente artículo publicado en la revista del PON de la Harvard Law School le ayudarán a hacerlo de manera efectiva.

Reglas básicas para negociar por mensaje de texto.

1. Revise sus mensajes. Una de las ventajas de enviar mensajes de texto (la capacidad de enviar mensajes sobre la marcha) da como resultado uno de sus errores frecuentes: errores ortográficos y errores de autocorrección vergonzosos. Antes de presionar «enviar», establezca una política para revisar todos los mensajes en busca de errores y verificar que se envíen a la persona adecuada.
2. No se ofenda. Es común que los adultos mayores (y por «mayores» nos referimos a más de 30) se sientan molestos por las libertades casuales que usan los más jóvenes cuando envían mensajes de texto. Las abreviaturas de texto (LOL, SMH, BRB, etc.), emojis, oraciones incompletas y jerga pueden dejarnos preguntándonos a qué se dirige el mundo de los negocios. Si no se siente cómodo con ciertas convenciones de los mensajes de texto, aborde el problema directamente o solicite cambiar al correo electrónico o al teléfono.
3. Deles el beneficio de la duda. Una directriz similar se aplica a los retrasos prolongados entre los mensajes de texto y los mensajes que parecen breves. En lugar de ofenderse, considere que su contraparte puede estar escribiendo debajo de la mesa en una reunión o no puede enviar mensajes de texto. El hecho de que las personas usen sus teléfonos la mayor parte del tiempo no significa que sean libres de interactuar contigo. Todos tendemos a pensar demasiado en las intenciones de las personas, especialmente en situaciones tensas, como un intercambio de ofertas. Puede evitar la sospecha y la negatividad que pueden desencadenar los aspectos de los mensajes de texto si acuerda con su contraparte que se avisarán mutuamente cuando necesiten algo de tiempo para responder extensamente.
